Evergreen Community Charter School and the Haw Creek Community Association are hosting a forum for Asheville City Council candidates on Monday, February 19, at 7:00 pm. Evergreen Middle School students will lead the forum with council candidates on the stage in front of a live audience. The event will be live streamed on the school’s Facebook page and the recording posted on Evergreen’s YouTube channel.
It is important for all citizens, of all ages, to have the opportunity to ask questions of local leaders. In addition to other issues, this will be a chance to inform and question the candidates about their position on the proposed development at 767 New Haw Creek Road.
A group of Evergreen’s 7th and 8th graders will introduce and ask questions of all the candidates running for Asheville City Council this year. Students will research local issues, get input from residents, and create questions that reflect what’s important to the community. This is the only forum where youth in Asheville get to ask questions of their prospective leaders. There will also be an opportunity for the audience to submit questions to the candidates.
Three seats are up for election on March 5, 2024. The candidates running include:
Recognizing that it may be hard for residents with young children to come to an event like this, we will be offering free childcare and those interested in childcare may register here.
Please register if you plan to attend.
